Our mission is to be a part of the World stage and contribute our flavour
to the mix.
SoulXpres are a music project based out of South Florida, USA.
Vocalists Dennis Baker and Nifa Spraggins met Bill and John Storch while working together at the West Palm Beach, Florida event "Resurrection Ball '94", a benefit for AIDS research. They struck up a lasting friendship, which included lead and background vocal work on The Demetrius Klein Dance Co./Southern Ballets' performance of "Song" in 1995.
While recording a Baker/Spraggins composition, "Commit To Me" at Storch Studios in 1998, the band formed under the name Soulproviders.
The single "Commit To Me" was released in January, 2000 on the US independent label KIKI Records under the new band name, SoulXpres.
The group released the single "Celebrate Love" on Voice Of The Underground Recordings. A remix of the single is featured on the "Space Ibiza 2002" CD compilation. This single also received a full UK release on Refunkt Records in early 2003.
The single "Get Down" was released in 2004 on MDEX Recordings (San Francisco, USA) featuring mixes from Tapio Schnaars and label owner Marc Deon.
The single "Burnin" was released as a collaboration with Italian artists M.I.D.I. and Mowree in 2006.
SoulXpres is currently touring the South Florida circuit delivering “Acoustic Funk” covers with a new twist as well performing their original material.
In between tour dates, SoulXpres resides in the studio and the band is set to release a full-length album by early 2012.
The current SoulXpres line-up includes:
Dennis Baker, lead vocalist/songwriter/producer
Dennis Baker, who hails from London, England, has been involved in the South Florida music scene for many years - primarily as a club-goer but later as a DJ. He has also been writing songs with Nifa Spraggins for almost 15 years.
Although he prefers to write, sing, and produce music, he has been making DJ mixes for friends for over 15 years. Dennis has spun with many South Florida DJs over the last 10 years. He still considers himself to be more of a 'bedroom' DJ, playing what moves his soul. He held a DJ residency at the Laundry Bar (later renamed Black Sheep Bar) in Miami Beach, FL, USA, for 3 1/2 years.
In 2009, Dennis collaborated with international DJ/Producer Willy Sanjuan (Barcelona, Spain) on an album project called "One" for the group Punch Exciters, contributing 3 songs to the project.
In the same year, another collaboration with South Florida DJ/Producer Mikkel Dankner (working under the name Soulscience) spawned the single "Hypnotize You" which was release on the independent Los Angeles - based record label Deeper Shades Recordings.
While performing at an event with Willy Sanjuan during the 2010 Winter Music Conference, Dennis met DJ/Producer Salvatore Agrosi from Italy - who was also DJing at the event. That meeting spawned a collaboration project for the song "The Real Me". This song was also signed to Deeper Shades and was released in 2012.
He continues to DJ at various events in the South Florida area, but is focusing on his songwriting, production, and remixing skills, and his live performances with SoulXpres.
Nifa Spraggins, lead vocalist/songwriter
Vocalist Nifa, a veteran of Palm Beach County Florida musical theater, has appeared in many critically acclaimed theatrical productions including Hair, Les Miserables and Chicago to name a few. Nifa also performs as an Impersonator covering such greats as Queen Latifah, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle and Gloria Gaynor.
Her musical tastes cover a wide range of genres including but not limited to Soul, Pop, Rock and Dance. In addition to her commanding voice and stage presence, Nifa is best known for her improvisational skills. A number of her chart-topping singles began with only a simple groove track for inspiration while she improvised on the spot.
As a singer/ songwriter with the soulful dance group SoulXpres, Nifa writes & performs alongside members Dennis Baker, Joanne Baker and Bill & John Storch.
Joanne Baker, vocalist/songwriter
Joanne Baker is Dennis’ sister and is also from London, England. She has been a member of SoulXpres since the beginning. She has also started writing songs in recent years.
Joanne’s interest in music stems from being immersed in the music scene in South Florida for many years, be it rock/alternative, pop, soul, or dance/electronica.
Joanne’s vocal style adds a warm touch to the harmonies that SoulXpres delivers in their recordings. Nifa refers to this as the “Ice Cream” in the mix!!
Along with the SoulXpres projects, Joanne is currently working on other music collaborations with other musicians and producers.
John Storch, bass/guitar/songwriter/producer
Bill Storch, keyboards/songwriter/producer
From West Palm Beach, FL. Bill and John Storch have been writing and recording music for over 20 years. Starting as an acoustic duo in their early teens, the brothers were members of the 'alternative' rock band ATA-TAT in the 1980's. Based in Boston, MA., ATA-TAT gained regional success in New England with a string of local radio hits, including "Dark Promises" which reached to #1 on many commercial and college stations in 1987.
Since returning to South Florida in 1990, the Storch brothers have accumulated an extensive list of credits to their name. Working in a variety of mediums, most notable are their works for dance and performance art (The Demetrius Klein Dance Co.; Cherie Carson, Terre Rybovich), in theater (Dow Raku Projects, ArtStage, Palm Beach Shakespeare, Florida Stage) and film sound tracks (Surreptitious Filmwerks).
Among the works for Klein, "Patenteux", "Halos In Reverse", "Jeux" and "Forgotten Spaces" have been performed extensively in South Florida, the US and Europe. Recently, they have performed as a duo at The Norton Museum of Art and The Boca Museum of Art.
Bill and John Storch have also worked as writers, producers and performers with rock band Sewing Circle Sues, country/folk outfit, Hillbilly Heart and have many production and session player credits to their name. The Storch Brothers first worked with Dennis & Joanne Baker and Nifa Spraggins for a fundraising event in 1993 and have been members of SoulXpres since it’s inception in 1998.
